 “Classics Old and New”
This program features a number of classic works for winds, some old and some new. The concert will begin with the Overture from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, featuring trumpets, horns, and double reeds. My Jesus, Oh What Anguish, a transcription by Alfred Reed of Bach’s hymn follows. Anthony Prisk of the Philadelphia Orchestra will join the Wind Symphony to perform Alexander Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto. Paul Hindemith’s warhorse, Symphony in B-flat, will open the second half of the program, followed by a set of Three Piano Miniatures including William Bolcom’s Graceful Ghost Rag, Aaron Copland’s Down A Country Lane, and Percy Grainger’s Country Band March.
